Today in Bishkek, the renovated “Sunny Fish” fountain was officially reopened with the participation of Mayor Aybek Junushaliev.
Residents enjoyed a performance by the Grand Symphony Orchestra and a reception was organized for guests.
The fountain’s major renovation was commissioned by the City Capital Construction Department.
The renovation included a full range of demolition and restoration works. Surfaces were cleaned using sandblasting, the old water supply system and excess concrete over the mosaic were removed, the old paving and lighting were replaced.
Special attention was given to restoring decorative elements. Missing details of the fountain’s basin, walls, and sculptures were recreated using traditional methods with marble, granite, and smalt—fully preserving the original design created more than half a century ago. All elements were restored authentically, maintaining the fountain’s historical appearance.
Hydro-insulation works were performed on the basin: surfaces were thoroughly cleaned, joints and cracks were sealed, and a multi-layer varnish was applied to enhance color and restore the fountain’s original shine. Pump and electrical equipment were completely replaced, and a dispatch and control channel connecting to the fountain was installed.
The surrounding area was landscaped with new vibrated paving stones in the fountain’s style, benches and trash bins were installed, and outdoor lighting was upgraded with modern solar-powered fixtures.
The contractor for the project was LLC “Grand PRO.”
