In Bishkek, a discussion was held on the Active Longevity program developed by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, aimed at improving the quality of life for elderly citizens.
The event brought together representatives of government bodies, international organizations, and the civil sector. Opening remarks were delivered by Deputy Minister Aynura Orozbaeva, Deputy Mayor Viktoria Mozgacheva, UNFPA analyst Asel Turgunova, Advisor at the European Center for Social Welfare Alexander Sidorenko, and Chair of the NGO “Resource Center for the Elderly” Svetlana Bashtovenko.
An analytical review, “Population Aging in the Kyrgyz Republic: Challenges and Prospects,” based on the 2022 census data, was presented. Expert Valentin Bogatyrev highlighted the need to adapt social policy to changes in the age structure of the population.
Special attention was given to the development of the State Program “Active Longevity” for 2025–2030, with updates provided by Nazgul Cholumova. Experts from CIS countries shared successful practices for engaging elderly people in social life.
The Bishkek municipality implements support measures for the elderly: institutions “Ümüt Üyü” and “Ardager” are operational, and 48 social workers assist 535 lonely senior citizens. Elderly residents receive scholarships, housing subsidies, utility benefits, and free public transport.
Participants emphasized the importance of joint efforts by the state, society, and international partners in fostering a culture of active longevity and ensuring a dignified life for elderly citizens.
