Preparations have begun in the capital for the New Year decoration of Ala-Too Square. Taking into account citizens’ wishes and requests, this year the main Christmas tree will be installed on the northern side of the square — allowing for a larger space for recreation, family photos, and festive events.
In compliance with noise regulations and energy-saving recommendations, a work algorithm and decoration plan for the central square have been developed. All decisions are made with consideration for energy efficiency, safety, and convenience for residents.
City municipal services are responsible for the installation and decoration of the Christmas tree. Materials purchased in previous years — including light garlands, decorative elements, toys, and small architectural forms — will be reused as much as possible. These elements are given a new design each year and repurposed.
It should be noted that the main garlands have not been replaced over the past three years, so new energy-saving garlands with power regulators will be purchased this year for the tree, along with new tree decorations. The total energy consumption of the fully decorated tree will be 53 kWh.
As in previous years, the city hall continues to cooperate with business representatives who contribute to the festive decorations, so the budget does not bear financial costs. A distinctive feature of this year’s square decorations is the installation of an ice rink. Last year, the rink covered about 400 sq.m.; this year, it will cover approximately 1,400 sq.m. To maintain the ice surface during warmer weather, electricity consumption is expected to reach up to 30 kWh.
Decoration of the pedestrian zone and food area will begin shortly according to the approved project. This year, to create more space for visitors and optimize energy use, the number of festive huts has been reduced from 36 to 14, and the maximum energy load per hut has been halved compared to last year. The required power per hut will be approximately 2 kW.
Last year, partners invested around 28 million soms in decorating the square. This year, their contribution will increase as all props, elements of the pedestrian zone, huts, and decorative structures are being fully updated.
Assembly work has already started: garlands are being checked, base structures and decorative elements are being installed. Necessary working conditions, including hot meals, have been organized for the staff involved in the preparations.
The New Year decoration of Ala-Too Square will traditionally combine modern elements, a festive atmosphere, and national style. All assembly work is expected to be completed by mid-December.
The pedestrian and food zones, as well as mass events, will operate until 10:00 PM.
