A roundtable was held in Bishkek dedicated to strengthening the foster family system and developing family-oriented child placement programs.
The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, Viktoria Mozgacheva, representatives of the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Department of Social Development of Bishkek City Hall and its territorial units, including heads of family and child support departments, as well as representatives of SOS Children's Village.
The main topic of discussion was the experience of interagency cooperation among government bodies, local self-government authorities, and the civil sector in promoting the foster family system and developing family-oriented child placement programs.
During the meeting, participants addressed practical issues related to the application of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Children’s Code and its subordinate legislation, discussed existing gaps and challenges in law enforcement practice, and developed proposals to address them.
The Deputy Mayor emphasized the importance of creating favorable conditions for foster families, improving procedures for supporting foster parents, and expanding opportunities for their social and psychological support.
At the end of the discussion, participants decided to continue joint work on improving mechanisms for family-based child placement and enhancing the effectiveness of child rights protection.
