Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev has launched one of the capital’s key infrastructure projects: the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road.

The new transport corridor will run through the eastern part of the city, outside the dense urban area. The total length of the Eastern Bypass Road will be 16 kilometers. The project includes the construction of five major interchanges, as well as an elevated bridge from the direction of the city of Kant.

The project also involves the construction and reconstruction of adjacent main streets, including:

  • Lev Tolstoy Street — from Auezov Street to the Eastern Bypass (5.7 km)
  • Akhunbaev Street — from Auezov Street to the Eastern Bypass (3 km)
  • Sukhe-Bator Street — from Auezov Street to the Eastern Bypass (2 km)
  • Zhukeeva-Pudovkina Street — from A. Tokombayev Street to Imanaliev Street (2.2 km)
  • Imanaliev Street — from Zhukeeva-Pudovkina Street to 7 April Street (3 km)

In total, the length of the bypass road together with the adjacent streets will be 32 kilometers.

The mayor visited the construction site of Zhukeeva-Pudovkina Street — from A. Tokombayev Street to Imanaliev Street — where about 100 units of specialized construction equipment are in operation.

The main goal of the project is to divert transit traffic outside the city, reduce congestion on central streets, and improve transport accessibility for both the city’s residents and the surrounding districts of Chuy Region.

The Eastern Bypass Road is a strategic project that is expected to significantly improve the transport situation in Bishkek and strengthen the city’s status as a regional transport hub.
